Fire Claims the Life of Four-Year-Old Girl in Nsanje

A four-year-old girl named Brandina Banda has died in a fire that occurred in her home in Nsanje.

The girl’s father, John Kaweta Banda, was away at work in Blantyre when the fire broke out.

“I was in Blantyre for work and my wife was at a shop,” explained Banda who works as Assistant District Forestry Officer.”

According to Mr. Banda, the cause of the fire is not clear, he said: “I am not sure as to what exactly caused the inferno. I am told there was a spark on a socket but also the kids were using a candle to light the house.” The fire destroyed the house and all of the family’s belongings.

Brandina’s body showed no signs of burns, except for her leg, and her father believes she suffocated as a result of the fire.

He said, “The two other children survived, but Brandina could not make. I believe she suffocated because her body has no burns, except for her leg which partly got burnt.”

The community is mourning the loss of the young life and sending their condolences to the Banda family.
