Opposition Leader Calls for Investigation into Alleged Farmer Rights Violations in AIP Fertilizer

Date:

Opposition leader Kondwani Nankhumwa has asked the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) to investigate alleged human rights violations against farmers seeking the Affordable Input Program (AIP) fertiliser.

In a letter to the commission’s executive secretary, Nankhumwa reported that government officials have been collecting money from farmers and failing to deliver the promised fertiliser.

He called the situation “unprecedented” and “plain wrong.”

Nankhumwa, expressed concern about the impact on farmers, who are already late in applying fertiliser to their fields with the arrival of the rainy season.
