STATE PARADES WITNESSES IN BUS DEPOTS REPOSSESSION CASE

Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda is today parading three witnesses in a case that National Bus Service Limited is attempting to reclaim from government bus depots that they used to manage.

In July 2022, the High Court ruled that Mulli and Nation Bus Services Limited be dispossessed of the five depots namely: Lilongwe, Wenela in Blantyre, Kasungu, Zomba, and Mzimba and ordered the local councils to take ownership

According to the first witness, detective Ephraim Phiri of the Fiscal And Fraud Section at National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe, National Bus Service Limited had acquired the public facilities fraudulently.

According to Phiri’s investigation, National Bus Services Limited had influenced some officials from the Ministry of Finance to be granted ownership of the bus depots.

The lawyer for the defendant, Frank Mbeta said the defendant was given the right to use the public resources as an incentive for the company to invest in a National Bus Service.

Hearing of the case continues this afternoon.
