The Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC), has given in to pressure from Member of Parliament for Zomba Malosa, Grace Kwelepeta, and 16 other Zomba and Machinga legislators to supply maize to their constituencies.

This comes after Kwelepeta closed down the Liwonde ADMARC depot in Machinga on Thursday, accusing authorities of favoring Blantyre and Lilongwe in the supply of the staple grain and alleging that people from her area are dying of hunger.

As a result of the closure of the depot, ADMARC has now given each of the Members of Parliament 1200 bags of maize.

Head of Human Resources and Administration at ADMARC, Ethel Zilirakhasu, has acknowledged delays in the supply of maize, but has assured Malawians that the government is restocking each depot with maize for an equal supply as planned.
