Lilongwe Police recover stolen items, four suspects arrested

Police in the Capital City, Lilongwe, on Monday, March 20, 2023 recovered 6.5 million kwacha worth of property that was stolen a week after watchmen connived with criminals to break into the office and stole assorted items.

The suspects have been identified as Isaac Master, 23, Mathews Nkambiri, Charles John, 28, and Isaki Molesi, 19.

Anthony Samson, a Tanzanian national, who owns Kembasta Limited at Malangalanga Business Area, employed two individuals, Master and Nkambiri, to work as security guards.

The two were also assigned to start working together, not knowing that the pair had a mission in mind to accomplish soon after being recruited for the job.

After working for just three days, on March 13, 2023 the watchmen connived with two other criminals, John and Molesi, to break into the office they were guarding and stole valuable items.

They went away with a brand new motorcycle, three generators, a plasma screen, four laptops, two desktop computers, a cooker, two sets of home theatres, and other items all valued at 6.5 million kwacha.

The watchmen bolted same night along with the other suspects using a 2 tonner vehicle which they hired to transport the items.

However, the suspects could not manage to outsmart Lilongwe Police detectives, who located and smoked them out of their hiding.

The law enforcers have since recovered almost eighty percent of the stolen items.

The four will appear in court soon to answer theft charges.

Isaac Master hails from Mazonda 1 Village, Traditional Authority Ganya, Ntcheu, Mathews
Nkambiri and Charles John hail from Balaka District, whilst Isaki Molesi is from T/A Mthiramanja, Mulanje.

Meanwhile, Police in Lilongwe is advising property owners to excise extra caution when recruiting security personnel to avoid similar incidents.
