Three individuals, including two health workers and a business lady, have been arrested in Balaka, Malawi, for allegedly stealing medical equipment from the Balaka District Hospital.
The suspects have been identified as Ester Chilunga, a 34-year-old business lady, George Kachere, a 42-year-old stores clerk, and Davie Witmos, a 72-year-old driver.
According to Balaka Police deputy publicist Sgt. Mphatso Munthali, the trio was arrested for being in possession of government property that was suspected to have been stolen.
It is alleged that the stolen medical equipment included syringes, surgical gloves, and other essential medical supplies that are crucial to the operation of the hospital.
The suspects are set to face charges of theft and being in possession of stolen government property.
The police have assured the public that they will continue to investigate and prosecute any individuals found to be involved in the theft of medical equipment.
