32 Standard Eight learners located on Chisi Island transferred

Zomba District Council has transferred about 32 Standard Eight learners from schools located on Chisi island and other places along Lake Chirwa to St. Michaels Primary School across the lake, to enable them continue their Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) preparations.

The learners are from Chisoni Chinguma and Ngotangota primary schools. They have been moved today from temporary camps they were residing in after their schools and houses were damaged due to the effects of Tropical Cyclone Freddy.

According to monitoring and evaluation officer for the council Dave Sato, the host school has provided the learners with three classrooms, of which two are for accommodation and the other for learning.

He said the learners will be served with food provided by the Department of Disaster and Management Affairs.

“Their teachers were already transferred last week,” he said.
