Mutharika cheers flood victims in Mangochi

Former President Peter Mutharika who is also leader of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on Saturday cheered flood victims in the eastern district of Mangochi.

Mutharika who was accompanied by former first lady Gertrude Mutharika cheered people camping at Samama school and Mponda evacuation centre at Makawa.

The former President donated flour and other assorted items.

Speaking at Makawa evacuation centre, Mutharika urged people living in disaster prone areas to relocate to safe to avert impact of natural disasters like what was experienced last month where people’s lives and property were lost.

He also called upon government and other relevant authorities to enhance disaster preparedness and response mechanism in light of availability of information of an impending disaster or even in situations where such information is not available.
