Poor agriculture practices fueling poor growth of aquaculture

Authorities have singled out poor agriculture practices as a contributing factor to the poor growth of the Aquaculture sector.

The sentiments have been made as flush floods have destroyed two fish ponds at Mzuzu Fisheries office following persistent rainfall that the city has been receiving in the past two days.

Regional Fisheries Officer for the North David Mbamba has said that there is a lot of siltation that has been caused as a result of poor agriculture practices which have in the end caused flooding in the localities.

Mbamba said authorities are yet to assess the quantity of fish that have been swept by running water following the destruction of two out of twenty eighty ponds at the office.
