A 39-year-old man named Dackson Gabriel has been taken into police custody for allegedly defiling a woman who has a mental health illness.
The incident occurred when the victim met Gabriel at Nsungwi Trading Center at approximately 8 pm. Gabriel promised the victim accommodation at his house and even promised her that she would spend the night in a separate room with his wife.
However, when they arrived at Gabriel’s house, it was discovered that he had lied about having a wife. During the night, Gabriel allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim twice.
The following morning, the victim reported the incident to the area’s block leader, who then contacted community policing members to apprehend Gabriel. The suspect was later handed over to the law enforcers at Nsungwi Police Unit.
Kanengo Police Spokesperson Gresham Ngwira has confirmed the incident, stating that Gabriel will face charges under section 139 of the penal code, which addresses the defilement of a mentally ill person.
Gabriel, who is from Mchinji District, will remain in police custody as investigations continue.
