Zomba Court Sentences Man to 12 Years Imprisonment for Catholic Church Robbery

A man named Edison Abasa, aged 42, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for robbery by the Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Zomba.

According to Zomba Police spokesperson Patricia Sipiliano, Abasa and his accomplices broke into the Mayaka Catholic Church on March 18, where they stole two cellphones, a power bank, and K72,000 in cash.

The state presented five witnesses who testified to the crime.

The Chief Resident Magistrate Austin Banda handed down the sentence to Abasa after the witnesses’ testimony.
