Security guard arrested over theft of bitumen

Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody Wilson Thika, 42, on allegations that he stole 10 drums of bitumen, a mixture used for road surfacing, valued at K4 million.

Thika, is one of the security guards at FAGO Limited in the Capital.

According to Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Hasting Chigalu, the suspect alongside his colleague, were on May 3, 2023 working at FAGO Limited as night shift security guards.

“When the day shift guards reported for duties on May 4, 2023 they did not find their colleagues for handovers as per requirement.

“The security guards noticed the missing of some bitumen drums and immediately reported the matter to the stores clerk. This is when they discovered that ten drums were missing,” Chigalu explained.

Investigations by Lilongwe Police detectives resulted into the arrest of Thika, and recovered nine drums in Area 23.
Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspect identified as Macfallen Mathews.
