Police Catch Suspected Ringleader of Road Trouble in Ntcheu

Police in Ntcheu have arrested 27 year old Wines Richard, months after his five accomplices were arrested and convicted for endangering lives of people travelling by road at Kachipeya along the Ntcheu-Dedza stretch of the M1 road.

Police in the district, who arrested Richard on Monday May 22, 2023 suspect him as the masterminder of the group which was waylaying unsuspecting motorists.

According to Ntcheu Police spokesperson Rabecca Ndiwate, it is alleged that from the month of January to June 2022, Richard together with his accomplices were placing stones on the road, causing damages to vehicles and later robbing the victims.

“In July last year, police arrested the five accomplices and were convicted while Richard had been on the run until his arrest on Monday May 22, 2023,” Ndiwate said.

Richard, who comes from Hauya Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chakhumbira in the district, is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges levelled against him.
