Nsanje police are actively searching for a woman who allegedly abandoned a one-month-old baby at Tengani camp stage in the district.
The incident occurred on Monday, May 22, 2023, and was reported by a woman named Mercy Kabudula, who had been traveling with the suspect.
According to Sub-Inspector Agnes Zalakoma, the district’s police spokesperson, the two women had boarded a minibus together in Ruo, Mulanje. They later disembarked in Limbe and boarded another minibus heading towards Nsanje.
It was during a stop at Tengani camp stage that the suspect requested a favor from Mercy Kabudula, asking her to hold the baby while she went to attend to nature’s call.
Shockingly, the woman never returned, leaving the driver of the minibus waiting until around 20:00hrs when the incident was reported to the police.
Currently, the baby is under the care of Nsanje District Hospital, while efforts are underway to locate the whereabouts of the mother.
