Police launch manhunt for unknown robber who brutally attacked motorcycle taxi operator in Mzimba

Police at Jenda in Mzimba district are hunting for unknown robber who have brutally hacked a 26-year-old motorcycle taxi operator on the afternoon of June 6, 2023 at Kapopo in the area.

The rider has been identified as Masautso Mmora from Khomera Village, Traditional Authority Nkhumba in Phalombe district.

It is alleged that, the victim on the said date while at Embangweni Motorcycle Rank was hired by the unknown suspect to drop him at Gama Kapopo area.

Upon arrival at the said place, the suspect immediately jumped from the motorcycle, produced a panga knife from his bag and hacked the victim in the head and arms who consequently fell down unconsciously in a pool of blood and later the suspect fled the scene with the motorcycle.

However upon seeing people coming from his direction following the shout by the rider, he changed the route and went into the nearby bush where he abandoned the motorcycle and escaped to an unknown destination.

The well-wishers recovered the motorcycle and took the victim to Jenda Rural Health Centre where he has been admitted due to deep cuts from the attack.

The matter was reported at Jenda Police Station who visited the scene of crime.

Meanwhile police at Jenda have launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspect.

Police have since appealed to the public who may have information that may lead to the arrest of the assailant to tip them off.
