Drama as married woman is blocked from marrying another man in Zambia

BARELY two months since a woman of Lusaka, Mary Lungu caused a social media buzz for attempting to marry another man, while still married, another woman of Lusaka has followed suit.

Phinet Nkhoma is believed to have left home on Friday last week on pretext that she was going for a party.

To the shock of her husband, Mika Tembo who was left caring for their four-year-old child at their matrimonial home, he was shocked to receive a phone call from a marriage registrar at the civic center that his wife was in the process of marrying another man.

Also in shock was her husband to be, Gabriel Chisha who stated that he had no idea that his wife to be was a married woman.

The marriage was only interrupted by Phinet’s mother, Alice Nkhoma who stormed the office of the registrar revealing that her daughter was a married woman.

The council registrar has since warned those who have turned marriage into a business venture that the local authority will not condone such acts.

“There is no marriage when you are still in marriage. So the marriage is considered null and void. People cannot modernise marriage and turn it into a business venture where you want to source money from people,” he said.

And the local authority Public Relations manager Chola Mwamba said the woman had taken false witnesses to the marriage.

“We saw a situation where she brought a parent who is not a parent as a witness. As the local authority, we will not entertain such illegality. That is why we are now alert that those that want to marry should meet the requirements,” she said.
