NOCMA fuel scandal case involving Kambala, Chihana and Chaima back in court

Former energy minister Newton Kambala is this morning appearing before the Lilongwe Chief Resident’s Magistrate Court in connection with the fuel importation deals at the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA).

Kambala, AFORD president Enock Chihana and former presidential aide Chris Chaima Banda were arrested in 2021 for allegedly attempting to influence a public officer in the procurement of fuel contrary to Corrupt Practices Act.

The case was supposed to be heard non-stop from January 17, 2023 when principal witness, former NOCMA deputy CEO Hellen Buluma was expected to present her evidence and to be cross-examined, but was adjourned to a later date.

Meanwhile, Kambala and his legal team have just arrived at the court.
