Man Ordered to Pay Fine For Sharing Girlfriend’s Nude Pictures on Social Media in Chikwawa

Christopher Mbewe, aged 25, has been convicted by the Chikwawa magistrate court for sharing nude pictures of his girlfriend on social media. The court ordered him to pay a fine of K400,000 or face eight months in jail as per Section 87 of the Electronic Transaction Act. Mbewe pleaded guilty to the offense.

The State Prosecutor, Sub Inspector Emmanuel Namarwa, highlighted the inhumane nature of Mbewe’s actions, which caused trauma to the victim, especially since the pictures were also sent to the girl’s father.

Mbewe, in his mitigation, stated that he is a university student and a first-time offender, requesting leniency. However, the court agreed with the prosecution’s argument and imposed the sentence.

Christopher Mbewe, originally from Julius Village, Traditional Authority Katunga in Chikwawa, is currently in Chikwawa Prison until he pays the fine.
