51 year old man, Bentry Jumbo has been ordered by Balaka First Grade Magistrate Court to pay K250 000 or in default serve an 18-month custodial sentence for causing death by reckless driving.
According to State prosecutor Bodwin Msukwa, on June 6, 2023, while driving a Toyota Sprinter Saloon along Chingeni-Zalewa Road in Balaka, Jumbo caused an accident which resulted in the death of six-year-old Tricia Lyson.
Jumbo pleaded guilty and consequently presiding magistrate Philip Chibwana went on to convict and fine him.
The convict comes from Mtambo Village in Traditional Authority Timbiri in Nkhatabay District.
