Chief Resident Magistrate Chisomo Msokera has adjourned to 2pm, a case in which former minister of Homeland Security Cecelia Chazama is answering a charge of abuse of office, alongside other former public officials.

This is in related to the recruitment of 127 immigration assistants.

The others are former Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services director general Masauko Medi, former Department of Human Resource Management and Development principal secretary Hilario Chimota and Immigration Department officials Pudensiana Makalamba, Limbani Chawinga and Chandiwira Chidothe.

In the morning session, the court heard from Daston Tasauka Manda, who is a former principal human resources officer at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services.

In his testimony, Manda told the court that during the recruitment exercise of Immigration assistants in 2017, he received documents containing a list of names from the accused persons forcing him to include them to attend the interviews. He said the list was outside the 12 000 candidates shortlisted to attend the interviews against about 36 000 applications.
