Four year old boy drowns in water reservoir in Lilongwe

A four-year-old boy has drowned in a water reservoir at Hongyuan Factory at Chitipi Trading Centre in Lilongwe.
The accident happened yesterday at around 12pm.

According to Lilongwe police station spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, the boy, identified as Mayamiko Julius, whose stepfather works with Hongyuan Industries as a labourer and is accommodated within the factory’s compound, was playing alone close to the reservoir.

Said Chigalu: “After noticing Mayamiko’s missing, his stepfather started searching around the premise, only to discover him floating in the reservoir. He was then rushed to Chitedze Health Centre where unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.”

Postmortem results revealed that death was due to suffocation.

The Circuit Camera Television (CCTV) footage at the scene of the incident showed that the child was playing around the water reservoir, later lost balance and fell in.
