Old Mutual trains journalists on New Pension Act, renews partnership with MISA Malawi

Old Mutual Malawi in partnership with the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi chapter on Wednesday trained journalists from various media houses in the south on Malawi’s New Pensions Act.

The training session took place at Malawi Sun Hotel in the commercial capital Blantyre and over 20 journalists took part.

During the session lawyer Pempho Likongwe dwelled much on highlighting the major changes in the new law and benefits of regularly updating the Beneficiary Nomination Forms.

Speaking after the training Old Mutual Pension Services Company Tawonga Manda emphasized the significant role pensions play in an economy, including investments in various sectors such as businesses.

Manda then revealed that Old Mutual is extending its partnership with MISA Malawi by three more years.

“I am glad to announce that we will be renewing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with MISA Malawi after a successful sponsoring the award category in the past three years. In the next three years series beginning with this yea, we would like to make it better by raising the annual sponsorship to MK 2 million from MK1.5 million.

“In the 2023-2024 season, we will take a deep dive into the Pensions Act 2023 with the theme Recognizing the Importance of Regularly Updating Beneficiary Nomination Forms, Maintenance of one pension account at all times (S141) in the implementation of the New Pension Act,” said Manda.

MISA Malawi vice Chair Chisomo Ngulube hailed Old Mutual for the support rendered to the media industry.
