EX-VP Cassim Chilumpha wants court to discharge him from treason case

Date:

Former vice president Dr. Cassim Chilumpha has asked the high court in Blantyre to discharge him from a treason case that he is being accused of.

In a court file seen by this publication, Chilumpha claims that it has taken too long for the case to be completed hence the request.

The court said it will make its determination on the matter within fourteen days.

The case goes back to April 2006, when Dr. Chilumpha was arrested on the accusation that he was conspiring to topple the then president, the late Bingu wa Mutharika.
