Two Malawians detained in Zambia for trafficking three Children

A COUPLE of Malawi has been denied to leave Zambia for United States of America on suspicions of trafficking three children.

Chicco Mbewe and his wife Gentille Giramata together with his step children aged 11,eight and five were intercepted at the Airport while they were on their way to USA.

Department public relations officer Namati Nshinka said the couple were also in the company of a Rwandese woman identified as Jolie Niyonsenga.

Mr Nshinka said the family entered Zambia on 29th September this year through the Mwami-Mchinji One Stop Border Post border.

“They were intercepted as they attempted to leave for the United States of America aboard a Kenyan Airways Flight, as their decision to avoid departing from Kamuzu International Airport in Malawi raised suspicions of suspected child-trafficking,” he said.

Mr Nshinka said the group has been handed over to the Malawi Immigration and Citizenship Services Department Officers.
