Man sentenced to 1 year in Prison for injuring a dog

Mzimba Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 42- year- old man, Lameck Mkandawire, to one year in prison for injuring a dog.
According to the Public prosecutor in the case, Happy Mlela, told the court that Mkandawire had injured the dog, while chained.
The owners of the dog who caught Mkandawire doing this reported the matter to the police which led to his arrest.
Judge, Wongani Kumwenda, found Mkandawire guilty for beating a dog without a reason, so he ordered that he should be in prison for one year.
According to the Animal Protection Act of Malawi-section 66:01 it is against the law to beat or ill-treat an animal.
