Boy dies in Chikwawa road accident

A five-year-old boy has died after being hit by a speeding vehicle at Domasi Trading Centre in Chikwawa, along the Blantyre-Chikwawa M1 Road, police publicist for the district Dickson Matemba disclosed.

The vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser Registration number BU 8266 hit the boy, Promise Osman, as he was crossing the road. Osman sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead at Chikwawa District Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Chifundo Kasekera has since been arrested. According to Matemba, Kasekera will appear in court soon to answer a charge of causing death by reckless driving.

While urging drivers to observe road signs and speed limits, Matemba has further advised parents and guardians to ensure that children are attended to when crossing the road.
