Man drowns in Mtiti River in Mponela

An unknown man aged between 23-28 has drowned in Mtiti River in Mponela, Dowa district.

Mponela Police Publicist Macpatson Msadala said the incident occurred on November 16, 2023, at Chithyola village along Mtiti River at around 11am.

According to the information gathered by Mponela police, the body was discovered floating in the waters of Mtiti river by farmers who were on their way to their farmyards.

The matter was reported to Mponela Police and medical personnel from Mponela Rural Hospital found that death was due to suffocation, secondary to drowning.

Burial was immediately ordered due to the decomposed state of the body.

Till his demise, the man wore a red T-shirt, blue trousers with khakhi trousers inside. He was stout, tall with a beard.

Police in Mponela, Dowa District are appealing to members of the community whose relative is missing to report to Mponela police or any police station for paper work.
