36 year-old man sentenced to 13 years in prison for sleeping with a 14 year-old girl in Kasungu

The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Kasungu district has sentenced a 36-year-old man, Alexander Kaunda Mbedwe to 13 years in prison for raping a 14 year old girl.

Kasungu police spokesperson joseph kachikho said the court heard from the assistants of the government witness in the case, Gladys Jentala, that on 22 October this year the child went to a friend’s place to play with her friends and did not return, which led to her parents searching for her until they found her at Mbewe’s place where they were leaving like marriage.

Kachikho said that on November 9 this year the matters was handed over to the police who took the child at Mbewe’s place to go to Kasungu hospital for examination where they confirmed that she had been abused and gave her treatment.

He said that in giving his verdict, the judge Eliya Zawanda agreed with the government to give a strict punishment for Alexander Kaunda Mbewe to be in prison for 13 years in order for others to learn from it.

Mbewe comes from the village of Kpyola in the village of Chief Njombwa in Kasungu district.
