Police in Mchinji have arrested 32 Mphangala Private Boarding Secondary School students in Mchinji over vandalism following their protests on December 11 2023.
According to District Police spokesperson, Limbani Mpinganjira,the students began damaging and setting ablaze school properties; prompting school authorities to inform the police.
They were reportedly bitter after the school delayed in serving their supper that day.
We managed to disperse the students, who later fled to surrounding villages to resume chaos, eventually damaging the windscreen of Toyota Land cruiser belonging to Mchinji Police, registration number MP 2642.
The other damaged property include electric cable wires, two mattresses, four chairs, four window flames, one aluminium pot.
But they are yet to evaluate the total value of the damages.
The suspects are expected to appear before court to answer malicious and arson charges.
