Football Association of Malawi (FAM), through its Competitions Committee, has ordered Mighty Mukuru wanderers not to pay K2 million fine for causing match abandonment as well as K500,000 for failing to control their supporters, but will adhere to other sanctions as mandated by FAM in relation to Airtel Top 8 case.
The Nomads legal team, led by David Kanyenda and the club’s legal adviser, Chancy Gondwe, lodged complaint against the decision of the FAM Competitions Committee on charges of misconduct during the 2023 Airtel Top 8 Quarter Final Match 1st leg played on 23rd September, 2023 at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
According to the latest verdict, Wanderers will still pay K22 million for damages caused at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe during the abandoned first leg and the nomads have been declared 2-0 losers of the quarterfinal second leg for failing to show up for the match which FAM arranged on 06 December at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
This means that the Lali Lubani Road outfit are out of the 2023 Airtel Top 8 and Silver will play against Mafco FC in the semifinals.
Wanderers were initially found guilty of three offenses, including causing abandonment of a match, failure to control their supporters, and bringing the game of football into disrepute.
FAM have dismissed the nomads appeal on four occasions against and the case has now lasted for four months.
