Flash floods hit Nkhotakota, vehicle swept away

The M5 road between Dwangwa and Nkhotakota has been declared impassable following heavy rains experienced in the district which has resulted into flash floods.

According to information at hand, a vehicle has been swept away by flash floods at Kaombe River which crosses the M5 road.

Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) has confirmed of the flash floods in the district, saying Nkhotakota District Council is assessing the damage caused by heavy rains being registered in the district.

Dodma spokesperson Chipiliro Khamula says the council has provided a preliminary report indicating the occurrence of flash floods but they are conducting assessments to establish the extent of damage.

Said Khamula: “Usually, it is more of an alert. It rarely comes with figures. We will keep you posted once they share with us a full report.”
