Consumers scramble for a packet of Sugar at Chipuku Stores in Zomba(watch video)

There is commotion at Chipuku Stores in the eastern district of Zomba where consumers are scrambling to buy one packet of Sugar pegged MK1,915.00.

The development comes barely days after the Ministry of Trade announced that Illovo Sugar and Salima Sugar Company will resume Sugar production next month.

A visit to the shop faceofmalawi reporter found a long queue of consumers scrambling to buy one packet of Sugar as per shop’s order.

Bridget Vinti who reside in Chikanda area told this publication that she came at the shop around 5am and she has managed to buy one packet.

“Yes i have managed to buy the packet of Sugar but after struggle. Government should do something because vendors are taking advantage of this by overpricing the sugar,” said Vinti.

Vendors are currently selling one packet of Sugar at MK3,700.00
