Ntcheu District Health Office has disclosed that the district has registered 42 cases of viral conjunctivitis also known as pink eye disease.

Ntcheu District Health Promotion Officer Stella Kawalala said: “As of 29/03/2024 Ntcheu had registered 42 cases of conjunctivitis (Red/Pink eye) disease. Pink eye transmits rapidly due to poor hygiene.”

She said the district has intensified surveillance and public awareness.

On his part, Ntcheu District Commissioner George Ngaiyaye said the development is worrisome.

“My message is that let us be vigilant, let’s follow Public Health Safeguards from time to time as advised by Ministry of Health, ” said Ngaiyaye.

Malawi has registered over 13,400 cases since the first cases was reported in the northern border district of Karonga in mid-February.
