Police in Mulanje have arrested a 26-year-old man, Pilirani Phutheya, for allegedly assaulting and spilling acid on his friend when both were coming from a drinking spree.
Spokesperson for Mulanje police Innocent Moses has identified the victim as Madalitso Ngolowera, 29, who comes from Kumponda Village in the area Senior Chief Mabuka in Mulanje District.
“We received a report that both the victim and the suspect were coming from a drinking spree and on their way back home, Phutheya started assaulting the victim up to the extent of spilling out acid to the victim’s face for the reason best known to himself”, he said.
Moses said the incident was reported to police lately since the victim was unable to speak soon after the incident.
He adds the suspect has since been charged with acts intended to cause grevious harm and will be taken to court soon after all paper work are finalised.
