Police and the Department of Immigration in Nakonde District in Zambia have arrested and charged a 52-year-old minibus driver for smuggling into Nakonde 31 prohibited immigrants (PIs) suspected to be Ethiopian Nationals.
The suspect identified as Victor Silwamba reportedly transported the PIs from Tanzania to a house in Chilolwa in Nakonde District around 03:00 hours on Saturday using a Toyota Hiance with Registration Number ADD 6819.
Police also found a Pajero, with registration Number AJE 4688, 31 sachets of sour milk and loaves of bread at the house of Kendrick Sichone where the immigrants were kept, however, Sichone and his wife managed to escape.
Muchinga province Deputy commanding officer Rolnad Zambo has confirmed the arrsest and said the prohibited immigrants are aged between 15 and 27 years.
