Arrested Journalist Macmillan Mhone transferred to Lilongwe

Information reaching this publication indicates that the law enforcers have transferred to Lilongwe the detained journalist Macmillan Mhone.

Mhone has been in the custody of Police since the morning of Monday, April 8, 2024 over a story that an online news site Malawi24 published in August 2023.

The story in question involves businessman Abdul Karim Batatawala.

Meanwhile, MISA Malawi Chairperson Golden Matonga has blasted the action, describing it as uncalled for.

“We are further alarmed and surprised that Police have resorted to transfer such a low level issue from Blantyre, where both the complainant and the journalist are based, to Lilongwe Police Headquarters, a distance of over 300 kilometres. This conduct amounts to torture and deliberate attempt to intimidate the journalist,” said Matonga.

Faceofmalawi will keep you updated on the matter.
