Chinese Men Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Malawian Construction Worker

Two Chinese men have arrested by police in Chikwawa on suspicion of assaulting a construction worker, leaving him unconscious and with a fractured arm.

According to Chikwawa Police deputy spokesperson Chancy Mfune, the duo, Allen Cheng, 37, and Peng Yongqia, 34, accused 37-year-old Silaj Maluwa, a machine operator, of stealing fuel.

Maluwa, an employee of Sinohydro Construction Company, had been working at a canal construction site when the incident occurred.

His colleagues found him unconscious along the earth road connecting to the campsite.

Maluwa is currently receiving treatment at Chikwawa District Hospital, while the suspects have been charged with acts intended to cause grievous harm.

The victim is from Sadulo Village, Traditional Authority Katunga in Chikwawa.
