A 24-year-old man from Nakambala Compound in Mazabuka District in Zambia has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for stealing K6,600.

The convict has been identified as Samuel Nketani who was charged with theft, contrary to Section 272 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Facts before Court are that on March 18, 2024, Rabbeca Malambo of Kabobola gave Nketani the aforementioned amount to buy her 20 by 25 kilograms bags of Mealie Meal.

The Court heard that after receiving the money, Nketani went for good without delivering the products he was required to purchase.

In mitigation, the defendant asked the Court for leniency, saying he was remorseful of his action and needs to take care of his wife who is seven months pregnant.

In delivering judgement, Magistrate Franz Zimba sentenced Nketani to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour.
