Kabaza Operators Drilled In Road Safety Measures In Mangochi

In an effort to sustain the declining trend of road accidents in the district, Mangochi Police Station through its traffic department, has launched an intensive training program targeting Kabaza motorcycle and bicycle operators, specifically focusing on proper roundabout usage.
The initiative commenced today afternoon at the Main Roundabout.
During the training which was led by Station Traffic Officer (STO) Assistant Superintendent Julius Phiri, Kabaza operators were urged to consistently adhere to traffic rules and reminded them of the correct roundabout procedures.
Phiri emphasized that many accidents involving Kabaza operators are caused by disregarding safety rules and unfamiliarity with roundabout protocols, hence, they were drilled on the correct stopping positions before proceeding.
“We believe that frequent reminders about roundabout usage rules will help prevent unnecessary accidents,” Phiri emphasized.
On the otherhand, Station Community Policing Coordinator Inspector James Kumbikano cautioned operators against irregular business hours and advised them to stay vigilant, as criminals may pose as customers with intention to rob or harm them.
Taking his turn, Frazer Chikalema, Chairman of Kabaza operators in Mangochi, commended the police’ efforts and pledged to disseminate the messages to fellow operators who were not available before urging police to extend the safety message to motorists.
According to police statistics, road accidents decreased from 22 in the first four months of 2023 to 11 during the same period this year.
