MERA speaks out on fuel scarcity rumours

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has quashed rumours hovering on social media that the country is running short of fuel, saying the rumours are untrue.

On Wednesday, the social media was awash with reports that the country has fuel which will last for less than 20 days in its reserves.

The development attracted panic among motorist with many rushing to pump station to stock more fuel in their vehicles.

But in a statement MERA said the country has in its reserves a month’s worth of fuel supplies.

The statement added that the importation is ongoing to ensure uninterrupted availability of fuel on the market.
