A 30-year old man, Alick Zachepa has committed suicide by hanging himself to the roof of his house after suspecting that his wife had an extramarital love affair.
Neno Police publicist, Rebecca Msoliza Zachepa confirmed the death saying the deceased accused his wife of having a love affair behind his back and a quarrel ensued over the issue.
“On Saturday, May 25, 2024, whilst the wife was away to draw water, Zachepa took a rope and hanged himself to the roof of his house,” added Msoliza and explained that the matter was reported to the village headman who later reported to police.
She said postmortem showed that Zachepa died due to suffocation secondary to strangulation.
Zachepa came from Mphakati Village, Traditional Authority Chekucheku in Neno district.
Meanwhile, police in the district appeal to the public to seek counselling services at Victim Support Units in police formations at other service providers other than resorting to committing suicide.
In a related development, a 22 year old young man Eladi Sabuneti also died of suicide by hanging in Thyolo this month (May) after parents faulted him of stealing maize from their store room.
Thyolo Police Public Relations Officer Rabbeca Kashoti confirmed Eladis death saying the young mans parents advised him not to repeat stealing maize.
The young man was later found hanging.
