Leader of Malawi First, Bon Kalindo, has presented a petition to the Blantyre District Commissioner’s office.
Kalindo’s petition demands that the National Registration Bureau (NRB) urgently address anomalies in the printing of National IDs.
He alleges that the NRB is favoring the central region, leaving people in other areas struggling to obtain IDs.
In addition to the ID issue, Kalindo is protesting against the high cost of living and political arrests.
Kalindo is also urging the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to consider providing alternative forms of identification for next year’s elections.
The protesters were heavily guarded by the police throughout their demonstration.
Several police officers were strategically positioned at key business locations during the protest.
