A court  sitting at Malomo in Ntchisi District, has sentenced 35-year-old Joseph Makola to three years in prison for attacking and injuring his brother, Antony Malipa, 30, following accusations of livestock theft.

Presenting the case in court, state prosecutor Felix Masilikali explained that the incident occurred on December 23, 2024. Makola assaulted his brother with a machete, striking him on the leg after becoming enraged over the theft of his sheep.

When appearing in court, Makola pleaded guilty to the charges and requested leniency, citing his dependence on life-prolonging medication. However, presiding magistrate Damiano Banda condemned Makola’s actions, describing them as inhumane and lacking compassion.

In his ruling, Magistrate Banda emphasized the seriousness of the offense and handed down a three-year custodial sentence to serve as a deterrent to others.
