District police spokesperson, Rabecca Kashoti, confirmed that the first incident involved a seven-year-old girl, Kezia Chimbamba, who drowned in the Thuchira River at Nkumbira village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Ngolongoliwa. The young girl had gone missing from school a day earlier, and her body was discovered in the river on her way home from January Primary School.

In the second incident, a six-year-old girl, Patience Andrea, drowned in the Mutuwanjati River at Elias village, also in TA Ngolongoliwa. Patience had been attempting to cross the river, which was swollen, on her way home from Nthulo Primary School when the tragedy occurred.

Both incidents have left the local community in mourning as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drownings.
