MBS said inspections found expired items like rotten fish, spoiled fruits, damaged flour, and expired salt being sold, which is against the law. The stores also had poor hygiene in their storage areas, which led to the closures.
MBS is now carrying out surprise inspections in Blantyre, Lilongwe, and Mzuzu to make sure shops follow food safety rules.
This comes after MBS yesterday closed three Sana stores in Malawi’s major cities for similar issues.
