The United Democratic Front (UDF) has condemned the recent incident in which women wearing Malawi Congress Party (MCP) attire were forcibly undressed by unidentified individuals in Ndirande, Blantyre.

In a statement issued today, UDF spokesperson Dyson Jangia expressed deep concern over the act, calling it shameful and a violation of human dignity and political freedom. He emphasized that every Malawian has the right to freely support and represent their political party of choice without fear of harassment or humiliation.

“As a party that fought for democracy and human rights in Malawi, the UDF urges all Malawians to avoid such disgraceful acts.

“With the September 2025 general elections drawing closer, we appeal to all political parties to ensure their members and supporters adhere to principles of peace and respect. Political violence or intimidation, including acts like these, have no place in our democracy,” said Jangia.

The UDF’s statement is a strong call for peace and respect for political diversity as the country prepares for the upcoming elections.
