The Industrial Relations Court in Blantyre has ordered the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to pay former Flames coach Meke Mwase K50 million by Monday, January 27, 2025.
This ruling, as reported by The Nation newspaper on Friday, January 24, 2025, follows a review of the case in which FAM’s legal representative, Luciano Mickeus of Micklaw and Company, contested an earlier judgment. The court had initially ruled in favor of Mwase, awarding him K440 million for being dismissed without following proper procedures.
Mickeus argued that the initial ruling was unfairly delivered in Mwase’s favor without considering FAM’s side of the story, prompting the request for a case review.
Mwase was dismissed in April 2022 after failing to meet certain contractual obligations. However, the recent ruling has upheld his claim for compensation, albeit reduced, requiring FAM to settle part of the amount within the specified timeframe.
