President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has arrived in Malawi from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where he attended the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit.
While at the summit, Malawi committed to Mission 300, a World Bank and African Development Bank initiative, seeking to ensure that 300 million Africans are connected to electricity by 2030.
In addition, Dr Chakwera also signed a $300 million compact which the World Bank Group board approved for Malawi to increase access to energy among the country’s population.
President Dr Chakwera also used the summit to deepen Malawi’s bilateral ties with Zambia when he met his Zambian counterpart, Hakainde Hichilema.
Currently, Malawi has set a target to have 70 per cent of its population connected to electricity by 2030 from the current 25 per cent.
