The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has suspended operations at four fuel stations—ENGEN Chiringa, Mount Meru Dunduzu 2, Mount Meru Nathenje, and SIMSO Mzuzu—for breaching fuel distribution regulations.

The stations were caught selling fuel in jerry cans and drums, a violation of the Liquid Fuels and Gas Act. Despite multiple warnings, they continued the practice, leading MERA to enforce a shutdown.

The stations will remain closed pending further investigations and the implementation of corrective measures to prevent future violations. The affected stations, owned by major fuel providers such as Vivo Energy Malawi (ENGEN), Mount Meru, and SIMSO Oil, have also been instructed to stop supplying the suspended stations until compliance is ensured.

MERA has urged the public to report any fuel station violations, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining safety and regulatory standards in the sector.
