Baby Rescued from Pit Latrine in Machinga Dies

The newborn baby who was rescued yesterday after being dumped in a pit latrine by its mother at a Machinga District hospital has passed away.

Machinga health spokesperson Wongani Nyirenda confirmed the sad news, stating that the baby died this morning.

According to Nyirenda, despite doctors’ efforts to save the infant’s life, the condition did not improve as tests indicated that the baby had ingested waste from the latrine.
